Rosebud Man Indicted for Sexually Abusing Children

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rosebud, South Dakota, man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for having sexual contact with and sexually abusing two children under the age of 12 in Todd County between 1991 and 1999.

Gilbert Oliver Crow Eagle, Jr., a/k/a Leonard Oliver, age 57, was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 8, 2011, for Aggravated Sexual Abuse and Abusive Sexual Contact. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on March 21, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to life in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both; five years of supervised release; and a $100 special assessment. Restitution may also be ordered. The charges are merely accusations, and Crow Eagle is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the FBI and Rosebud Law Enforcement Services. Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher is prosecuting the case. Crow Eagle was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has been set for May 3, 2011.
